Why Mobility Can Change After 50
Maybe you’ve noticed that certain movements just aren’t as easy as they used to be.
Your hips feel tighter. Your shoulders don’t move as freely. You have a harder time reaching overhead, getting down to the floor or turning your body when you need to.
Some of this is a normal part of getting older. But losing mobility isn’t something you simply have to accept.
When we move less, our joints can become stiffer, our muscles can lose strength and we can start avoiding movements that feel difficult. Over time, that can affect how confidently and comfortably you move through everyday life.
The good news is that mobility can be trained.
With the right combination of strength, mobility and flexibility work, we can help your body move more freely and maintain the movement you need to keep doing the things you love.

More Than Just Stretching
Move better. Feel better. Keep doing more.
Mobility isn’t just about stretching. It’s about having the movement, strength and control to use your body well.
We’ll work on the areas that are limiting you—whether that’s tight hips, stiff shoulders, limited ankle mobility or difficulty getting down to the floor.
Stretch & move
We’ll work on flexibility where you need it, helping you move through a greater range of motion.
Build strength
Strength and mobility go hand in hand.

We’ll build strength through the ranges of motion you need to move with more control.
Improve joint mobility
We’ll focus on the joints and movements that are important for your everyday life, rather than simply giving you a list of stretches.

Training That Supports Your Life
The goal isn’t to become more flexible just for the sake of it. It’s to make everyday movement easier.
Whether you want to get down on the floor, reach into a cupboard, put on your shoes, play golf, hike, garden or simply move through your day without feeling so stiff, we’ll work on the movement that matters to you.

Don’t Let Stiffness Limit Your Life
Most people don’t come to me because they want to be more flexible. They come because they’re noticing that their body is starting to get in the way of things they enjoy.
Maybe they’re having trouble getting down on the floor to play with their grandchildren, reaching overhead, getting out of the car, or moving comfortably when they’re hiking, golfing or travelling.
And this is one of my favourite parts of working with clients. I love seeing people continue to do the things that matter to them. Seeing someone get down on the floor with their grandkids, return to an activity they thought they might have to give up, or simply move through their day without thinking so much about what their body can’t do.
That’s why I care about mobility. It gives you more freedom in your everyday life—and helps you keep doing the things you love.

Hi, I'm Katie
I’ve been helping people feel stronger, healthier and better in their bodies for more than 25 years.
I’m a personal trainer and Certified Holistic Nutritionist, with a degree in kinesiology, a certification in yoga and a long-standing study of Pilates and yoga.
My approach to mobility and flexibility comes from bringing all of these areas together. I combine my background in strength training with what I’ve learned through Pilates and yoga to create programs that help you become stronger while also improving how your body moves.
I actually started my career volunteering at a cardiac rehabilitation centre at McMaster University. It was there that I first learned how different training can be for adults over 50—and how important it is to understand the person in front of you rather than simply follow a workout plan.
Over the past 25+ years, I’ve continued to build on that foundation, working with people at different stages of life, with different bodies, abilities and needs.
For me, good training isn’t just about getting stronger. It’s about helping your body move well so you can keep doing the things you love.

Mobility & Flexibility — Frequently Asked Questions
Can I improve my flexibility after 50?
Absolutely. Your body can continue to adapt as you get older. With the right combination of mobility work, flexibility, strength and consistent practice, you can improve how freely and comfortably you move.
What if I’m really stiff?
That’s completely okay. We start with where you are and work gradually. You don’t need to be flexible to start training.
Do I need to do yoga to improve my flexibility?
Not at all. Yoga can be a great tool for mobility and flexibility, but it’s only one part of my approach. I combine elements of strength training, Pilates and yoga based on what your body needs.
Can strength training actually improve mobility?
Yes. Strength and mobility work together. Building strength through a comfortable range of motion can help you develop better control and confidence in how you move.
What if I have an injury or pain?
We’ll take that into account when designing your training. Exercises can be modified based on what your body can comfortably handle. If something is outside my scope of practice, I’ll recommend that you work with the appropriate healthcare professional.
Can we work on mobility for specific activities?
Absolutely. This is one of the things I love about personalized training. We can work on the movements you need for activities like golf, hiking, gardening, travelling, getting on and off the floor or simply moving more comfortably through your day.
