Online Strength Training
Stronger for the Life You Want to Live.
Getting older doesn’t mean you have to become weaker.
In fact, strength becomes one of the most important things you can build and maintain as you move through your 50s, 60s and beyond.
Strength is what helps you get up from the floor, carry your bags, climb stairs, travel with confidence, play with your grandchildren and keep doing the activities you love.
You’re never too old to get stronger.
With the right training, we can build strength and muscle, improve how your body moves and help you feel more capable in your everyday life.

Why Strength Training Becomes So Important After 50
As we get older, we naturally start to lose muscle and strength. If we don’t actively work to maintain them, everyday things can gradually become more difficult.
You might notice that carrying groceries takes more effort, getting up from a low chair isn’t as easy, or you’re not as confident lifting, hiking, travelling or doing the activities you used to enjoy.
And it’s not just about being strong enough to lift heavier weights. Strength supports your balance, mobility, independence and ability to handle the demands of everyday life.
The good news is that your body can continue to build strength and muscle well beyond 50.
You don’t have to accept becoming weaker with age. With the right training, we can continue challenging your body in a safe and effective way and help you maintain the strength you need for the life you want to live.

My Approach to Strength Training
Getting stronger after 50 is different from training at 25.
Build strength safely

We’ll challenge your muscles enough to get stronger without beating up your joints or leaving you too sore to enjoy the rest of your life.
Train for your body
Train for your body
Your age, training history, injuries, mobility and current strength all matter.
Your program is built around where you are now—not where you think you should be.
Build muscle & capacity

We’ll progressively increase the challenge so your body has a reason to adapt.
The goal is to build and maintain the muscle and strength that support you now and for years to come.
Train for daily activities
Train for daily activities
Strength training should make your life easier.
We’ll train the movements and physical capacity you need for everyday life, as well as the activities and sports you want to keep enjoying.
What Your Strength Training Includes
Personalized strength training designed around your body, your current abilities and the life you want to keep living.
A Personalized Strength Program
Your program is built around your current strength, training experience, mobility, injuries and goals. We start where you are and progress from there.
Progressive Strength Training
We gradually increase the challenge as you get stronger. This is how we continue building muscle, strength and physical capacity over time.
Full-Body Training
We train your whole body—not just the muscles you want to see in the mirror. Your legs, hips, back, core, shoulders and arms all play an important role in keeping you strong and capable.
Functional Strength
We’ll train the strength you actually use in your life—getting up and down, carrying things, climbing stairs, lifting, reaching, walking and moving through your everyday activities.
One-to-One Coaching
You work directly with me online 1-1. I watch your form, coach you through each exercise and adjust your training as you progress.
Wellness Coaching & Support
You have someone in your corner. As we train, I’ll also share nutrition and wellness tips that can support your strength, energy, recovery and overall wellbeing. It’s not just about what happens during your workout—it’s about helping you make choices that support how you want to feel and live.

Why Strength Training Matters
Most people don’t come to me because they want to lift heavier weights. They want to feel strong in their everyday life.
They want to carry their groceries without struggling, get up from the floor with ease, hike that trail, travel without worrying about their body, play with their grandchildren or keep doing the sports and activities they love.
And I love seeing what happens when someone realizes they’re stronger than they thought they were.
Maybe they pick up something they used to need help with. Maybe they get back to an activity they had stopped doing. Or maybe they simply notice that everyday things don’t feel as hard anymore.
That’s what strength training is really about to me. It’s about building a body that supports the life you want to live.

Hi, I'm Katie
Strength training has been part of my life for almost 30 years.
I started strength training when I was 15, and it has stayed with me ever since. I honestly don’t feel like myself when strength training isn’t part of my life. I feel more confident, grounded and powerful in my body when I’m strong.
That’s a big part of why I love helping other people discover what strength can do for them.
I’m a personal trainer and Certified Holistic Nutritionist, with a degree in kinesiology, a certification in yoga and a long-standing study of Pilates and movement practices.
I actually started my career volunteering at a cardiac rehabilitation centre at McMaster University. It was there that I first learned how different training can be for adults over 50—and how important it is to understand the person in front of you rather than simply follow a workout plan.
Over the past 25+ years, I’ve worked with people at different stages of life, helping them build strength in a way that is safe, effective and appropriate for their bodies.
One of my favourite things to witness is when a client starts experiencing that same shift—when they realize they’re stronger, more capable and more confident in their body than they thought they could be.

Strength Training — Frequently Asked Questions
Am I too old to start strength training?
Absolutely not. You can build strength at any age. We simply start at the level that is appropriate for you and progress from there.
What if I’ve never lifted weights before?
That’s completely fine. You don’t need to know what you’re doing before you start. I’ll teach you how to lift safely, help you understand good form and gradually increase the challenge as you become stronger and more confident.
What if I’m already fit and active?
You don’t have to be starting from scratch. If you already exercise, strength training can help you maintain what you’ve built and continue progressing.
After 50, staying active is important, but your body also needs a reason to maintain muscle and strength. We’ll build from your current level and make your training challenging enough to keep you adapting.
Why is strength training so important for women over 50?
For women, strength training becomes particularly important as we move through menopause and beyond. Changes in hormones can contribute to a faster loss of muscle mass and strength, making it increasingly important to actively maintain and build muscle.
Muscle is one of the most protective tissues we have as we age. It supports your bones and joints, helps with balance and stability, supports your metabolism and gives you the physical capacity to remain independent and active.
That’s why I’m such a strong believer in strength training for women over 50. We’re not just training for how you look today—we’re building the strength and muscle you want to have 10, 20 and 30 years from now.
Will strength training make me bulky?
Not unless that’s specifically what you’re training for. For most of my clients, the goal is to build and maintain lean muscle, strength and physical capacity rather than add significant size.
Strength training can help you feel firmer, stronger and more capable without turning you into a bodybuilder.
Is strength training safe after 50?
Yes, when it’s appropriately designed and coached. Your training should reflect your current strength, mobility, training history, injuries and how well you recover.
Getting older doesn’t mean you need to stop challenging your body. It means you need to be smarter about how you challenge it.
Can I strength train if I have an injury?
Often, yes. An injury doesn’t necessarily mean you have to stop strength training. We can modify exercises, work around the affected area and gradually build your capacity.
If something is outside my scope of practice, I’ll recommend that you work with the appropriate healthcare professional.
